dax keeps one long-running session per project

The opencode mobile app changed how he structures work, with each session told to do everything through subagents.

dax now runs a bunch of long running sessions, one per project, instead of starting fresh contexts per task. He credits the change to the opencode mobile app, and says he tells each session to do everything using subagents so he can work on several things at once if needed.

That is the whole claim, posted here. No benchmark, no numbers, one practitioner describing how his own setup drifted.

Why the phone changes the shape

The other half of the picture is where he is when he does this. In a separate post dax described walking outside, using the opencode app on his phone, which controls the opencode server on his computer in his office, while the work happens in a Slack thread with his team and their opencode Slackbot. He has been driving agents from a phone for a while.

A laptop makes a new session cheap. You open a terminal, you point it at a repo, you go. On a phone, every bit of setup is friction, so the session that is already open and already knows the project is the one you talk to. Persistence beats freshness when typing is expensive.

The subagent instruction is the part worth copying regardless of device. If the top level session hands work out rather than doing it inline, its own context stays small enough to survive across days of use, and dax can push several things forward in parallel from one place. That is the trade he is making, not a claim that subagents produce better code.

For working engineers

This is a workflow report from one person on his own projects, not a result. It sits oddly next to dax's earlier line that custom agent setups fix problems that no longer exist, though nothing here is custom tooling, it is just how he opens and keeps sessions. If you have never found a reason to keep a session alive past one task, the reason might simply be that you have always had a keyboard.
